Please join up for the 2009 - 1430 Challenge

The Children's Ramadan Challenge has been successfully taking place in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past six years through the efforts of Northstar School. This year Barakah Life is pleased to be able to continue the tradition in the Bay Area as well as extend the reach of this beneficial program nationally.

What is the Challenge?

The Challenge has two components:

  • The first is to be "TV-Free" during Ramadan.
  • The second component is to make a Ramadan Resolution.

Challenge History

The idea for a TV-Free Ramadan was started at Standford Islamic School in Palo Alto, California. A teacher at the school, Ameena Ansari, was very inspired by the idea; she developed it through the Northstar School into a program that reached beyond the school's borders and into the larger community.

What is TV-Free?

It is creating a home environment during Ramadan that is TV-Free. It's unplugging....that means from TV, videos and/or video games.

The Resolution

The resolution is a personal commitment from the child to consistently do good actions throughout the month. Children should be the primary decision-makers in choosing a Ramadan resolution. It could be any form of Ibaada such as helping your parents more, praying on time, reading Quran, or some type of regular community service. If your family's sole goal is to be TV-free, that is fine as well.

The point is that the commitment be something you consciously choose as well as carry out.
